What Is Inventor?
Inventor is a software that allows you to sketch out any 3D image you can think of. You can visualize your project and it allows you to see a simulation of what you sketched to know if it will work or not. What is Makerbot? Makerbot is a desktop software that allows you to upload your sketch that you made on the Inventor software to the Makerbot Desktop software. From there you can size your project and choose how it will lay in the Makerbot Printer. |
Step 1: Start to sketch out your idea in your designer notebook. For mine,
I chose to make small rectangles beside the actual holders so that I can put what ever I want in them because when I get ready for bed I have small things that I need to set down and don't want to lose and I can also leave them in the boxes until I need them. I could also put toothpaste or floss in them. Once you have exactly what you want, start to sketch it out in Inventor. Once you have your project sketched out, Export it into a stl. file. Step 2: Open Makerbot Desktop and click add and choose your file. Make sure to change the scale to 1,000% and place it so you can use as few (or none in some cases), supports as possible. Plug in your USB and click Export to move a copy of your file to the flash drive. |
Step 3: While waiting for it to print, take time to update your website or finish anything else that you need completed. For the website, create a new page and tile the header as INDIVIDUAL 3D PRINT ASSIGNMENT, and then you can start editing your page.
|
Step 4: After your project is completed, take it out of the Makerbot printer. If it is not coming up easily, use the scraper and peel it up. Then peel off the bottom layer and any supports you might have had. Take your print home and take a picture of it in use and post it on the website.

What did this project teach me?
Starting the project I wasn't sure what I wanted to make. I first thought that if I made the toothbrush holder, I would just make a container with holes in it and make it a bit more fancy to get points. But then I really though about it and had an idea to make small containers in it too for the use of anything I want.
